And welcome to Helen McCookerybook Art
A new website set up on Helen’s behalf to preview her artwork/music (old & new) from as far back as 1975 to the current date
Although known mainly as leader of post punk Brighton act The Chefs, Helen has always been a very talented artist, studying at Brighton College of Art between 1976-1979
A keen illustrator by nature, she is very quirky and highly perceptive both emotionally and conceptually
Combining her unique experience as first generation female punk between 1976 -79 allows her unusual and uniqueness to flourish in art & music combined
In 2009, I asked Helen if she would illustrate some songs written for North Carolina fiddler Buck Easly, she responded with some amazing art whuch became the backbone of Welcome to Scullyville project featured on this website.
Recently, Helen has been inspecting her loft for old works and has found hoards, some spanning back as far as 1973, also some 1979 rare Chef’s posters
Through her art and her music and gentle lovely nature, Helen has inspired me to try raise awareness of her unique and idiosyncratic talent
A national treasure
PS: We sure hope you enjoy this site
